One of the more interesting
aspects of the consolidated body of work of these artists is their treatment of
light and color. They have all been very
clearly influenced by the great Impressionists, but the vibrant colors and
pearly quality of the light depicted are unique to the islands, and definitive
of this collection. While it is easy to
make the thematic connections between all of these works, the techniques
employed by their creators yield greatly differing products, and certainly
influenced by the artist’s own background and viewpoints. While looking at these works on the whole the
likenesses are apparent, but the subtleties are much more difficult to
quantify.
